Prevention Messages

The following prevention messages were compiled and developed by Introduction to Social Services classes in 1997 and 1998. Some are original and some are messages already in use which the students thought were effective. If you would like your own original or favorite prevention message included here, send it by e-mail

Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs

Nobody ever says, "When I grow up I want to be a drug addict."

If you think it's cool to drink, it's even cooler not to.

The original Marlboro Man died of cancer.

Friends don't let friends drive drunk.

Smoking = Death

Don't toke and ya won't choke

Try paying the bills with a $500 a month drug habit

If you drink and drive, remember it could be your Mom, Dad, child or favorite friend that another drunk driver may kill!

HIV, STD's and Pregnancy

Is sex worth dying for?

The first time can kill! AIDS!

The only safe sex is abstinence

Pregnancy is a life long commitment - Baby think it over

Wear a Condom

Try other alternatives besides sex: Go to a movie and not a porno mivie or get to know the person as a friend and not a sex object, you might really like the person

Sex can be a fling but the baby isn't

Would you rather use a condom every time or take 25 pills a day to treat AIDS?

Violence and Gangs

Violence - Don't play that game

Join GROUPS not GANGS

Do your own thing! It's safer!

Your "clique" could be from a gun

Join the SWAT Team

Violence and gangs strip youth of innocence as well as the ability to stand on their own

Dare to be different, be an example of strength, not weakness. It takes strength to stand alone!

Child Abuse

Child abuse - It hurts

What's Your Excuse? - Children have no choice

Children are Innocent. Do not be Guilty of child abuse

Child Abuse: It doesn't have to be

What did they ever do to you!?

Children cannot protect themselves, who gives you the right to abuse their innocence?

Break the Cycle of Abuse: Get counseling and if you feel like abusing a child, imagine how that child feels.
